How is the data supplied?

The download link is sent to you by email automatically straight after payment. This means that you get immediate access to the data.

Note that AOL users sometimes have the email blocked by the AOL spam filter. If the email has not arrived within 30 minutes of the transaction, please get in touch.

How is the data installed onto my satnav device?

Each system uses a different method, so installation instructions are provided with the data. In summary:

TomTom: POI files are copied and pasted into the map folder
Garmin: Use POI Loader to install the POI files
Navman: Use SmartST Desktop to install the POI files
AutoRoute: Bridge and truck stop information is loaded from an .axe file

What prompted you to undertake this project?

The catalyst that spurred me into this project was seeing the figures from the Department for Transport web site stating that on average 5 bridges a day are being hit. I live near a low bridge on the A41 near Bicester, and some years ago I saw the aftermath of a dreadful accident where the bridge was struck, killing the driver.

This was exactly the kind of incident that a simple GPS system can help avoid. They are now so cheap and effective that there's really no excuse for a professional driver not to have one. In my view, GPS systems in large vehicles should be as pervasive as ABS brakes.

Can I make contributions to the data?

All users are encouraged to inform us about missing / re-graded bridges, or if a new truckstop opens or one goes out of business. Updates are issued regularly and are free of charge to users, so that everyone can be sure of having the most up to date information.
